We have the Midwest MTB Summit coming up once again in May and this time around it will be right here in Illinois (many thanks to PAMBA for stepping up to take on the hosting duties this time around) so I would strongly urge all of our member clubs to send representatives to the Summit and (more specifically) to the Spring IMBC meeting which will be taking place there that weekend. I would like to use this meeting to do something more than just the usual review of recent club activities that has been the agenda of past meetings. I want to have an open discussion about what the IMBC can do/should be doing. We need to lay out some clear plans and goal for this organization and we need to hear ANY thoughts/ideas about what direction we need to be headed. There will be some that will say that this organization is not needed and I definitely want to hear those voices so that we can make an honest and fair decision. If the IMBC is indeed un-necessary and redundant then we need to be willing to see that and make the decision to wrap things up but, if it simply needs clearer goals and direction in order to be an effective and useful organization then we should figure that out and clearly lay out our plans for the future (and, of course, then we will need to ACT on those plans). So, if you could all take some time to compile your thoughts on the IMBC, what it is doing right or doing wrong and what it needs to be doing. Then email me with your ideas/complaints/suggestions/etc... And then, if we could all get together in Peoria at the Summit to sit down for an hour or so to talk about this and find a consensus as to what is next. I look forward to hearing back from you all soon and seeing you all in Peoria for some honest discussion AND a great weekend of riding and other fun. Thanks. Marco N. A reply came to me like a flash ("like a vision burnt across the clouds") so I thought I'd write it down: Mixed in among the IMBC emails was my listserve message from NEMBA (New England Mountain...). Well I looked over at my wall map and saw that the New England states represented by NEMBA are about the same total size as Illinois...OK, a little bigger counting the far NE reaches of Maine. Just like we have lots of unrideable agland, they have lots of unrideable mountains...and a lot of rideable, just like us. SO, if IMBC is looking for the what-for and how, the NEMBA chapter example could be something worth looking at for reference. Heck, they got Phillip Keyes and Bill Boles in Dirt Rag!
