Please have your volunteers register on line @  Americantrails.org/ 
quad/volunteer.html

Use FORC, QCBC, or IMBA, as your group/s of  interest.   I'll be  
submitting your names on my list as well.

They have a long list of jobs available.  Be sure to mention that you  
are IMBC and affilliated with the local FORC group and have been  
invited to attend the ride outings as guides and guest speakers.    
Hopefully this can reduce your costs.

Either way you guys can hook up with FORC to ride all their trails.   
You will need to get John Blair to reserve the Front Street Brew Pub  
room ASAP since there is a convention in town.   Let John Know what  
days you need.  John's number is 309-721-5192.  The Front Street  
Number is 563-322-1569.

Hello Dean,

I want to be there all day Saturday to ride and volunteer to help FORC and IMBA out.  Do you know if I can pay for just the mobile workshop ride or do I have to sign up for a Single Day Registration too?  I'm also interested in your offer of lodging at your house on Friday and maybe Saturday night.  Saturday night depends on how much we drink at the IMBC meeting.  Do you still have room?

Everybody,

I just spoke with John Blair about arranging our IMBC meeting on Saturday
night of the National Trails Symposium.  Tomorrow, he will check with The
Front Street to reserve the room for a time shortly after the Symposium's
banquet is expected to conclude on Saturday, October 21.  I will let
everyone know what he sets up.

Dean,
 
I spoke with Jim G earlier about volunteering for  the rides at the 
symposium.  Can you please suggest a hotel  for me? I would like to help in any way. I 
remember Jim  mentioning that you were in need of bikes for the rides.  I have 
 some bikes that I would be able to bring with me.   I would just  need to 
know what sizes, men's,  woman's....  
 

Do you think that the IMBC meeting could be on Saturday before  7pm.  I have 
to be back on Sunday for the CAMBR Porker  Ride. I am still planning on 
registering as a volunteer. I will  be going out of town this Friday. If you could 
get back to me  with  the meeting information and the number of bikes that you 
might  need before then I would appreciate it.

Good timing Shawn,  I was just preparing to send out the volunteer list.

The best way to go to the NTS is as a volunteer.  I'll add you as an  
IMBC Guest speaker.

You will need to go to Americantrails.org/quad/volunteer.html  to  
sign up on the official waiver liability list.   Just note that you  
are an IMBC rep, for FORC/IMBA trail outing.  They may give you a job  
to do, but we will  get you on the MTB outing with FORC & IMBA, for  
free if possible.  At least you won't have to pay the daily fees.

I'd offered my home, if you don't mind dogs and sleeping in the  
basement family room.  There were hotels mentioned on  
Americantrail.org/quad that were offering discounts.   Anything  
downtown Davenport would be within walking distance of everything.

John is suppose to arrange the IMBC mtg at frontstreet.  hope its  
still available.  I'll call right now to leave  a message for Jenny,  
the manager,  to reserve the room for FORC from 6-9 pm on 10/21 for ~  
20 people?    John Blair can check it out tomorrow.

Greetings all,
 
Well, availability and finances have panned out that allow me to be part
of this great weekend.  I would very much like to join IMBC for the
meeting Saturday night and bring news of the Macomb area, catch up with
the gang, and make some new acquaintences.  I have volunteered for all
day Sunday at the symposium.  Is anyone planning on trail riding Sunday
after all is said and done at the symposium?...so I can anticipate
bringing a bike or not.  Dean,  could I please take you up on your offer
for basement floor space Saturday night (ref. finances part)?

family room.  There were hotels mentioned on Americantrail.org/quad that
were offering discounts.   Anything downtown Davenport would be within
walking distance of everything.

manager,  to reserve the room for FORC from 6-9 pm on 10/21 for ~ 20

  Okay, first off I would like to extend to Dean the heartfelt thanks and
appreciation of all of the IMBC for his generous offer of accomodations
at his home as well as all of his assistance with making this event
possible for us.

  And now, with regards to the offer of accomodations I am going to make
the following suggestion.  Any IMBC representatives who will be
attending the Symposium and who is looking to stay at Dean's house
should go ahead and email Dean directly so that he can send out the
directions we will need (since this is a public mailing list I would
prefer to not have Dean's address posted here).  And on that note... 
Dean, can you email me the directions?  =)

  One additional note...  Can all IMBC board members and member club
representatives please email me to let me know if you will be attending
the Symposium and/or the IMBC fall quarterly meeting so that we can have
a good idea of which clubs will be represented.  Any club reps who will

okay folks! we have to move fast on this one. the deadline for applications 
for Trail Care Crew visits for 2007 is November 1st so, let's see some 
discussion here as to which clubs would like to host a Trailbuilding Class 
this coming year.

I have been told that CORBA would like to get a visit if possible and I 
think that would certainly be a good idea. Additionally it was made clear to 
me while meeting with the FORC folks the other day that there is a very 
strong need and desire for an IMBA visit. So, that makes two member clubs 
that would like to see a Trail Care Crew in 2007, are there any other clubs 
that would like to be considered for a visit?

We really need to get a consensus on this fairly quickly so that the 
application(s) can be submitted as soon as possible so, please averyone 
chime in with any thoughts/suggestions/ideas.

SAMBA does not need a visit this year.

I would be happy to see the Trail Care Crew visit FORC or CORBA.  After
talking to FORC members this weekend, I realize they have opportunities for
new trail and could really benefit from educating members and land managers.

If the TCC cannot visit FORC, they asked if the IMBC could provide this
training to their members.  I think some of us have done this before.  Who
wants to do this for FORC or other clubs in the future?

The Quad City Bike Club hosted the National Trail symposium but got  
little opportunity to get IMBA on our trails or to receive  
instruction from them due to all the rain.

QCBC & FORC are in need of increasing our member training and would  
appreciate consideration for an IMBA trail crew visit this year.

I could host the crew and others at my home.  There are ample  
opportunities entertainment and riding around town.

If not given priority, then we would certainly like an invitation to  
crew training and reciprocal hosting from one of our IMBC clubs.

I've done both the IMBA type class and my own revamped version for freeriding and stunt type stuff with much success!  I'm game for teaching it...wherever and whenever.

In my humble opinion, CORBA should be first in line.  They were scheduled for last year and then lost the weekend.  I know we discussed two clubs each year applying for a visit.  So let's go with CORBA and FORC!

Well, we have seen no dissenting opinions here so, I am going to say we
need to go ahead with this plan.  FORC and CORBA will both submit their
applications to IMBA for a TCC visit.  Additionally the Illinois IMBA
state reps will contact IMBA directly and voice their support for these
two groups getting TCC visits for '07.  Lets see what we can do to make
these two visits happen everybody!  Remember, the deadline is November 1st
so get these apps submitted NOW!!!

I have already sent the online application link to Pauly DeKeersgeiter with CORBA and asked him to mention that CORBA's scheduled visit for last year was cancelled.  I will double check with him tomorrow (the 30th) on making sure the app. is filled out and sent.

Shawn McKinney here with some suggestions to get both of these visits approved.

It might help other IMBA reps not familiar with CORBA or FORC's particular issues to get some information addressing WHY these two groups need a visit.  FORC and CORBA, answer these questions in a response to this e-mail or directly to all four IMBA reps:

Are there enough trail miles in your area right now?

How well trained are your members in trail building skills? 

How many trail miles are waiting to be built?

What is your relationship with local land managers?

What problems are you having with your land managers or elected officials?

What problems are you having with club members or local community support?

How many riders do you think new trails will serve?

How many members does your club have?
